Fertility assessment
Fertility assessment is:
- assessment of a current fertility of individual or a couple and
- risk assessment for reduced fertility in the future or possible longer time needed to conceive.
The assessment can be done with the aid of the FAC form , which was produced and validated in the years 2011-2014 at the Fertility Assessment Clinics (FAC) in Denmark and Sweden on the wider population. They have been available in clinics in the developed world ever since to help couples plan a family at a time that is most convenient for them.
The form presents different risk factors for reduced fertility and risk levels separately for each individual factor.
The risk levels are color-coded according to the risk level:
Very low risk – only 1.2%
Low risk – both 64.7% get pregnant within 1 year
Medium risk – 52.1% get pregnant within 1 year
High risk – 32.5% get pregnant in 1 year
The presence of even 1 sign of high risk reduces the probability of conceiving a child in the first year by 75%.
These parameters, which provide a very good insight into a female/male fertility, can be assessed much before there are problems conceiving, even before the couple is involved in MAR procedures.
